HTI2 - Journal Week 02 'Arcades Project'

Other local ‘Arcade’ examples can be seen in streets like Clarke Quay that is right next to the Singapore River. It was founded and used as a trading post by the British and became a settlement later. Singapore River was the lifeblood of the British colony, the trade artery, and the center of commercial activity.

It greatly contributes to the economy of early Singapore and more people over the world came to Singapore to seek a better life. It slowly grew into the city of modern Singapore.

Having adapted of Arcades in Singapore can help preserve the building and increase shopping experience by learning the history of the building the shops are in. Arcades can also help keeping the shopping street cool, even enable the entire street to be air-conditioned in Singapore. The older buildings can help remind young Singaporeans of its roots and how Singapore flourished through the times.
